I Say! Spiffingly Festive Crabbies Mulled Ginger Wine | New from South Lincs Foodservice

Image

As part of South Lincs Foodservice’s foray into offering a complete wine cellar service, we are also offering the spiffingly gorgeous Crabbies Mulled Ginger Wine, as part of our Christmas and Winter season. We tried this bottled and pre-mulled ginger wine back in July at a Christmas food convention and were suitably impressed with the flavour. It is full of spices, with a leaning towards ginger, cinnamon and clove and tastes very much home-made; but perfectly balanced. Warmed with a slice of orange, ( studded with cloves perhaps?) and a cinnamon stick garnish, this mulled wine will sure to be a big hit; with minimal fuss.

A blend of the finest quality British Ruby and Crabbie’s Ginger Wine, coupled with natural ginger, spices and citrus fruits result in a truly warming drink. Today , we steep our Green Ginger Wine for up to 8 long weeks – just like John Crabbie used to do back in 1801. So combining our traditional Green Ginger Wine with the other ingredients makes Crabbie’s Mulled Ginger Wine extra special.

It can also be enjoyed the ‘Crabbie’s way’ by pouring it over a mince pie creating a unique dessert option for winter evenings. Spiffing!

We have Coffee + Cake

| South Lincs Supports The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning |

Here at South Lincs, there are few things we like more than coffee and cake. At the same time, there is nothing we dislike more than cancer. With many members of our staff having been affected directly or indirectly by this disease, Macmillian Cancer Support’s annual “The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning” is something everyone here can get behind.

Festivities started on Thursday, with members of our team bringing in cakes, breads, quiches, cream, jams and of course coffee to share and help raise funds. We have a few talented professionals and very ambitious amateur chefs and pastry chefs on staff, so the standard was set very high. ( editor’s note: the bloggess’ talents start and end with brewing fresh coffee…no hidden baking talents here ) Here are some examples from the day:

We also asked customers on both Thursday and Friday to donate just 20p with their orders to go towards our fundraiser, to which many responded positively. In fact many donated significantly higher than that token amount, and to that we say “Thank you”! We raised a total of £354.60 from our customer’s generosity alone.

Our “Guess the Beans” competition was won by Area Sales Manager, Calvin with a prize of £10.00 which he promptly stuffed back into the donations box ( what a star!)

Julie ( in the green wig ) raised £50.00 on the day doing a sponsored “no swearing day”.  Her customers thought it was bliss!

Through feeding our faces on wonderful homemade cakes, a “Guess Who’s Baby Photo” quiz, our accounts member, Phil being charged 20p per cup of coffee drank on Thursday (Ironic, as he was the brainwave to staff being charged for hot drinks in the first place) and peoples generosity a further total of £163.08 from the staff was raised.

The grand total collected for the two days was:  £582.68

Just to give you an idea of what that sort of money can buy:

  • £70 could help run a large Macmillan information and support centre for one hour
  • £50 could pay for a Macmillan Grant that buys someone with cancer a microwave, making it easier for them to prepare their food.

A genuine “Thank you” to all our customers who helped support our efforts.

birchall_red_berry_flower-frontFollowing previous honours in 2011 and 2012, Birchall‘s signature Great Rift blend once again earned a coveted Gold Star award – this time in the Blended tea bags category. Also, in a new first for the British tea company, Birchall achieved success in both the Fruit Infusion and Herbal Infusion categories, winning two Gold Star awards with its caffeine free Red Berry & Flower infusion and pure Peppermint tea.

The famous black and gold Great Taste symbol will now appear on these products, as featured on other teas in Birchall’s extensive range, including its well-known Pfunda and Pfunda Earl Grey single estate teas.

The Great Taste Awards is now in its 20th year and is the world’s largest and most rigorous food awards scheme. This year’s completely independent judging process involved a panel of over 400 judges and food experts, which spent thousands of hours of

Daniel Graham, Birchall’s Managing Director, said “We are delighted with this year‘s Great Taste results and that our

dedication to quality has received further recognition. Whilst it’s pleasing that our newly launched Peppermint and Red Berry & Flower infusions have both been awarded, it is especially pleasing that our Great Rift blend has been awarded for the third straight year.”

Birchall will showcase its complete collection of black teas, green teas and fruit & herbal infusions at London Olympia during the Speciality & Fine Food Fair next month. Continue reading

Crackin’ Crisps

Corkers-Crisps-sept12-15[1]

Corkers is the newest and most sustainable crisp brand on the market. They are 100% British, contain no artificial or MSG products and the flavours are made using only natural British produce.

Over the years, many British icons have come and gone but the classic British spud remains a firm favourite – but only the finest potatoes are used to make Corkers Crisps. Launched in 2011 by friends, Ross Taylor and Rod Garnham, Corkers Crisps are made from premium potatoes grown on the Taylor family farm in the rich peaty soil of the Cambridgeshire countryside. The secret to Corkers’ unique great taste is the attention to detail Ross and Rod have put into perfecting it. The premium quality Naturalo potato tastes great but isn’t a familiar sight on our supermarket shelves because it’s just not pretty enough! However, its flavour is exceptional and once sliced and fried it outshines other potatoes.

Corker’s Crisps are now available on Special Offer in the July – August Special Offers
